Lee Pace and Jared Harris Join Apple TV+’s Foundation Series

Apple TV+’s adaptation of Isaac Asimov’s Foundation series has lined up its first two stars. Deadline brings word that Lee Pace and Jared Harris have been cast in the leading roles.

Pace portrayed Ronan the Accuser in Guardians of the Galaxy and returned to the MCU in Captain Marvel earlier this year. Pace also starred on AMC’s Halt and Catch Fire. Meanwhile, Harris recently garnered acclaim for his role as Valery Legasov on the HBO miniseries Chernobyl. His work on that show landed him an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or Movie. Additionally, he played Professor Moriarty in Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows and will appear in Sony’s Morbius next year.

Asimov kicked off Foundation in 1951 with the publication of the series’ eponymous first novel in a series that spanned 40 years. The books imagine a future where a Galactic Empire encompasses almost 25 million planets in the Milky Way. When a mathematician named Hari Seldon predicts the Empire’s collapse, he develops a plan to preserve civilization. He creates two “Foundations” of scientists and engineers and positions them at opposite ends of the galaxy, ensuring its survival. Harris will play Seldon on the new series, while Pace will star as the Empire’s leader, Brother Day.

Foundation will run for 10 episodes and comes from Skydance Television. David Goyer is acting as showrunner, and he’ll executive produce alongside Josh Friedman, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Marcy Ross. Asimov’s daughter, Robyn Asimov, will also serve as an executive producer.
