This year marks the 20th anniversary of Batman Beyond. So naturally, the cast and crew of the beloved animated series gathered for a retrospective celebration at Comic-Con. Via Polygon, Warner Bros. will release a high-definition remaster of the entire series on Blu-ray this fall.
Batman Beyond was an instant success when it premiered in early 1999. Picking up several years after Bruce Wayne hung up his cape and cowl, it followed the adventures of teenager Terry McGinnis as he trains under the erstwhile Dark Knight to become the new Batman in a futuristic Gotham City. Voice actors Kevin Conroy and Will Friedle joined producer Bruce Timm and casting director Andrea Romano in Hall H to share their fondest memories of working on the show. Although the series only lasted three seasons, it has lived on in the DC Universe comics over the years. The latest comic series is written by Dan Jurgens with a rotating cast of artistic talent.

News of the show’s impending Blu-ray release follows last year’s remaster of Batman: The Animated Series. The Batman Beyond collection will feature all 52 episodes of the original series, plus Return of the Joker, the critically-acclaimed film that came out in 2000. Apparently, the producers could only remaster 41 episodes without incident. Polygon notes that the other 11 were “irreparably damaged” and needed to be “uprezzed” from older files. A limited edition box set will also include a chromed Batman Beyond funko pop, new featurettes, and lenticular art cards.
The Batman Beyond collection will arrive on October 29. Will you be picking up a copy of the remastered series when it hits store shelves? Let us know in the comment section below!
