Game of Thrones Series Finale – What Did You Think?!

Warning: There are spoilers ahead for the Game of Thrones finale!

Now, our watch has ended. On Sunday night, the final episode of HBO’s Game of Thrones arrived. And while the episode probably broke another ratings record for HBO, the early response among fans appears to be very divided. That’s where you come in. We want to know what the Superhero Hype community thinks about the series finale! This post is a place for all of you to leave your own reviews, thoughts, or anything else you want to say about the last episode.

Few could have predicted that Game of Thrones would become one of the most popular series on TV when it debuted in 2011. Fantasy series have rarely been well received on television. However, George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire novels already had a dedicated fanbase before the show. David Benioff and D. B. Weiss secured the rights to adapt the novels for HBO, and for years it was critically acclaimed. Game of Thrones was one of the few TV shows beloved by fans and critics alike.

That audience goodwill began to disappear during the eighth and final season, however. Benioff and Weiss had long since moved past the material released in Martin’s first five novels. For the last few seasons, Benioff and Weiss have been largely working from outlines and notes given to them by Martin, as opposed to fully developed books. It may be several years before we learn how the ending of the novels differs from the show’s conclusion. Of course, that’s assuming that Martin will finish The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring.

Regardless of whether the series finale pleased everyone, Game of Thrones made history for HBO. And the network isn’t going to let that world disappear into the long night. A prequel pilot is currently in the works, and other potential spinoffs are also in development.
