Recently, Sony scored a major achievement with the Oscar-winning Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Now, it looks like Sony is planning to expand its Marvel presence to the small screen as well. In an interview with Variety, Sony Pictures Television chairman Mike Hopkins discussed the company’s plans to bring their Marvel characters to TV.
“We’re developing a lot of Marvel-related content, and I think we’ll be out in the market very soon with something really, really big and transformational for us, because we’ve not done any shows with Marvel before, with Marvel IP,” said Hopkins. “So that’s a big piece of development that we’re onto.”
Variety notes that even without the wallcrawler himself, Sony still has over 900 Spider-Man-adjacent characters at their disposal. Additionally, Hopkins went on to say that the studio is “pretty far down the road in terms of working through which characters we think could be their own star of a series.”

Sony Pictures Entertainment chairman Tony Vinciquerra also made it clear that the studio is in it for the long haul.
“We have the next seven or eight years laid out as to what we’re going to do with that asset, and that will not only be on the film side — it’ll be on the TV side,” said Vinciquerra. “Our television group will have its own set of characters from within that universe that we will seek to develop.”
Jared Leto is starring in Morbius the Living Vampire, Sony’s next Marvel inspired project. Beyond that, Sony is considering film spinoffs for Black Cat, Silver Sable, and Kraven the Hunter, among others. However, it’s still unclear if minor Spider-Man related characters can become box office draws. Regardless, Sony’s plans won’t be slowing down any time soon.
