Last week, Arrow set up a new status quo for Oliver Queen by placing him as an employee of the SCPD. The previous episode also established an estrangement between Oliver and Felicity. Now, the Elseworlds crossover is at the midway point, with Oliver and Barry living each others’ lives. In Arrow season 7 episode 9, the heroes followed up on their one lead and went to Gotham City for answers.
Gotham
After an Arrow-style introduction from Barry as Oliver, Supergirl, Green Arrow, and the Flash saved Diggle’s life from Deathstroke’s son, Joe Wilson. Back at ARGUS, the trio explain the situation to Diggle and Curtis, but they neglect to tell Felicity about the life swap between Oliver and Barry. After some bickering about their secret identities, the trio headed to Gotham to find Dr. Deegan. However, they were soon accosted by would-be thieves. In the chaos that followed, Gotham police officers recognized Barry as Oliver and arrested them all.
Batwoman Begins
Kate Kane arranged for the trio to be bailed out, and she had them taken to Bruce Wayne’s former office building. Kate claimed that Bruce left Gotham after Batman disappeared, and she let them operate out of her building so they could leave her city sooner. Eventually, Kate proved to be helpful when she said she recognized Deegan as a doctor at Arkham Asylum.
With a further assist from Team Arrow and Team Flash, the trio infiltrated Arkham. When confronted, Deegan refused to relinquish the Book of Destiny that allowed him to rewrite reality. Batwoman entered the fray when Arkham’s inmates were released by Deegan. Oliver and Barry were also exposed to Scarecrow’s fear toxin, which made them believe they were fighting their greatest enemies. Batwoman broke up the fight, and helped them retrieve the book. She even shared a moment of bonding with Supergirl after ordering them out of her city.
The Flash of Two Worlds
Cisco and Caitlin realized that the red skies effect was following Oliver and Barry around. With Felicity’s help, they deduced that someone was attempting to breach into their world. They briefly saw the ’90s Flash through a portal, and he told them that the Book of Destiny could undo the damage caused by Deegan. When the older Barry finally crossed over, young Barry thought he was Jay Garrick, or his father, Henry Allen.
After older Barry explained who and what the Monitor was, he joined the trio to confront him. The Monitor sent older Barry through another portal and easily held off the rest of the heroes. The Monitor then returned the Book of Destiny to Deegan, and told him to think bigger.
“It’s Over”
Reality was rewritten yet again, with Barry and Oliver reborn as the criminal Trigger Twins. This time, neither Barry nor Oliver had the Flash’s power, and Supergirl was gone. In this new world, Joe Wilson, Malcolm Merlin, and Ricardo Diaz were police officers who tried to arrest them. Barry and Oliver escaped their custody, but they were confronted by Superman, who wore an ominous black costume. The Man of Steel told them “it’s over,” and boasted that he could find them anywhere they go.
