Jeryl Prescott Cast as Madame Xanadu in DC Universe’s Swamp Thing

According to The Wrap, Warner Bros. has announced that actress Jeryl Prescott is joining the cast of DC Universe’s Swamp Thing. She’ll be playing Madame Xanadu on the upcoming show, which will air in 2019.

Madame Xanadu debuted in the pages of Doorway to Nightmare #1 in February 1978. The show has an updated description of the sorceress and seer. “A centuries-old sorceress who finds herself reluctantly drawn into battle against the escalating supernatural forces plaguing a small Louisiana town. A blind fortune teller and magical crusader, Xanadu’s heart is in the right place despite her unorthodox methods in the fight against evil.” A different take on the character was featured in a 2011 episode of Young Justice, voiced by Cree Summer. Prescott’s portrayal will mark Madame Xanadu’s first ever live-action appearance in any medium.

Prescott isn’t exactly a stranger to comic book adaptations. She had a recurring role as Jacqui on the first season of AMC’s The Walking Dead. She also had a four-episode stint on the PlayStation Network series Powers, based on Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming’s comic of the same name. Her other screen credits include The Skeleton Key, Ray Donovan, and The Birth of a Nation.

Swamp Thing stars Derek Mears in the title role and is produced by Aquaman director James Wan. Maria Sten and Crystal Reed are co-starring as Liz Tremayne and Abby Arcane, respectively. Len Wiseman (the Underworld series) is directing the pilot episode from a script by Mark Verheiden and Gary Dauberman. Filming hasn’t begun, but the series is one of three live-action programs that DC Universe will be premiering next year. Doom Patrol and Stargirl are likewise in development for 2019. The service is also planning a new Harley Quinn animated series and a Young Justice revival.
