Exclusive Kick-Ass and Scott Pilgrim Updates

On the red carpet in London for the premiere of Fantastic Mr. Fox, we managed to grab Kick-Ass screenwriter Jane Goldman aside and Jason Schwartzman told us briefly his thoughts on Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World.

Goldman said that production on Kick-Ass is “going great. We’re nearly finished. We’re coming out in April next year, we’re just finishing up the visual effects and music right now, but we’re really excited.”

While she couldn’t give us an exact date of when we’ll see the trailer, she added: “I can’t give you an exact date, but it will be very soon. It’s being worked on right now.”

The adaptation of the Mark Millar and John Romita Jr. comic is directed by Matthew Vaughn and stars Nicolas Cage, Aaron Johnson, Lyndsy Fonseca, Mark Strong, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Chloe Moretz. Kick-Ass tells the story of average teenager Dave Lizewski (Johnson), a comic-book fanboy who decides to take his obsession as inspiration to become a real-life superhero. There’s only one problem… he has absolutely no superpowers.

We had also heard that Fantastic Mr. Fox star Schwartzman had seen 20 minutes of “Scott Pilgrim,” which he confirmed. He said it’s “unlike anything I’ve ever seen. I can’t tell you much, but sort of beautiful; incredible. Good job Edgar Wright, good job.”

Based on the Bryan Lee O’Malley’s graphic novel, Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World stars Michael Cera, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Chris Evans, Brandon Routh, Aubrey Plaza, Kieran Culkin, Brie Larson, Mae Whitman, Ellen Wong, Anna Kendrick, Mark Webber, Alison Pill and Satya Bhabha. In the film, Winstead plays the dream woman of a young slacker (Cera) and the only way he can win her heart is by battling and defeating her seven evil ex-boyfriends.
