In the wake of the release of Creature Commandos, many fans have been discussing the series’ connections to the now-ended DCEU. David Ayer’s troubled DCEU Suicide Squad movie, which came out in 2016, is currently trending online, with many fans keeping up the demand for the release of Ayer’s original cut of the film. The flames of fan curiosity were then fanned after the filmmaker took to social media to campaign for the release of his “real film.” Along with his message, Ayer also shared several photos of Jared Leto’s Joker that did not make the theatrical cut.
David Ayer still wishes for Suicide Squad’s Ayer Cut to be released
David Ayer shared a fan poster of the Suicide Squad’s Ayer Cut on X (formerly Twitter) in order to help encourage Warner Bros. to release it. The Fury director also thanked admirers of the film for their relentless support and encouragement.
In the said X (formerly Twitter) post, Ayer remarked, “I hope my real film can be shared one day. I appreciate the continued support and interest.” Under the caption, David Ayer also re-published an edited banner for Suicide Squad. The poster featured all the leading characters of the film, with ‘The Ayer Cut’ hanging under the title.
The theatrical cut of David Ayer’s Suicide Squad initially came out in 2016 and garnered mostly negative reviews. The director later cited extensive studio interference as the reason behind the theatrical version’s issues. Since then, fans have persistently advocated for the release of Ayer’s original cut.
Ayer shares new look at Jared Leto’s Joker from The Suicide Squad
Alongside the aforementioned poster, David Ayer also provided fans with a glimpse at some previously unseen images of Jared Leto’s Joker in The Suicide Squad.
In one image, the Clown Prince of Crime emerges from a container of chemicals, screaming with extreme displeasure. The scene presumably takes after the interaction between the Joker and Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn, where Quinn ultimately jumps into the vessel herself.
Meanwhile, the second post shows another scene between Harley Quinn and the Joker. Leto’s antagonist sports a charred face in this sequence while also holding a gun. This scene, including many others, did not end up in the theatrical version of the movie.
Despite the apparent demand for The Ayer Cut, Warner Bros. has yet to issue any update regarding its release.
