Another actor has opened up about working on the set of Blade: Trinity, with Natasha Lyonne contrasting her “wild” experience with Wesley Snipes on the Marvel movie to the “extraordinary” one she had with him on the set of Zig Zag.
It’s been well-documented that Snipes was difficult to work with during the production of the third and final Blade movie, which was released in 2004 to mostly negative reviews from critics. Years before he became Deadpool, Ryan Reynolds co-starred in Blade: Trinity, appearing opposite Snipes’ title character as Hannibal King. While there have been reports indicating that Reynolds and Snipes didn’t get along on the set of the last Blade movie, the two appear to be on better terms now, with the latter making a scene-stealing appearance as Blade in the former’s latest movie, Deadpool & Wolverine.
During a recent appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast (via ComicBookMovie.com), Lyonne shared what she remembered about her time filming Blade: Trinity. “Well, David Goyer, the writer/director, had also done this other film Zig Zag,” she told the podcast’s host, Josh Horowitz. “Zig Zag also had Wesley Snipes, John Leguizamo, and Oliver Platt as my pimp. Wesley was so f—ing extraordinary in this movie. It was a real indie film. Then on Blade: Trinity, it was so funny.”
She continued, “I’d never seen anyone do this: he had a tattoo double, a profile double, and body double, and he would do his close-ups and he’s so fun to act with but on the reverse…he wouldn’t be there! It was just so wild because on Zigzag, he was fully present.”
Natasha Lyonne returns to the Marvel Universe
Just as Reynolds recovered from Blade: Trinity by booking Deadpool, fans will soon remember Lyonne for an entirely different Marvel role, or perhaps roles. The actor is set to appear in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe movie, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, with her role currently undisclosed. However, before the movie hits theaters in 2025, Lyonne will make her MCU debut in the third and final season of the animated series, What If…?, as an original superhero called Byrdie.
Byrdie is not expected to be the role Lyonne will portray in The Fantastic Four since the movie’s director, Matt Shakman, previously confirmed that the movie takes place in a “universe where there are no other heroes. It’s (just) The Fantastic Four.”
