Creature Commandos: Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor Appearance Rumor Debunked

James Gunn’s revamped DCU is set to kick off with Creature Commandos, which is gradually nearing its release date. In the wake of its premiere, the much-awaited animated series has already drawn several speculations regarding the characters it could feature. One such character is that of Lex Luthor, who has been rumored to make a brief appearance in the show. In a recent online discussion, James Gunn has personally addressed these theories, providing a definitive answer and debunking the rumors in the process.

James Gunn denies Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor cameo rumor for Creature Commandos

James Gunn firmly rejected a cameo from Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor in the forthcoming Creature Commandos. However, Gunn did convey that fans can expect plentiful appearances from other DC characters in the show.

The Guardians of the Galaxy director divulged this information while replying to a circulating rumor that hints at Luthor’s appearance in DCU’s first outing. He straight away debunked the suggestion, stating, “It’s not true. Plenty of fun appearances in Creature Commandos but no Lex, young or otherwise. And CC happens only months before Superman,” on Threads.

The characters that have officially been confirmed for the show include Circe (Anya Chalotra), Amanda Waller (Viola Davis), Rick Flag Sr. (Frank Grillo), Weasel (Sean Gunn), and Frankenstein (David Harbour), among others. Waller’s inclusion suggests that characters from the Suicide Squad are well within their element to make an appearance. Meanwhile, Circe, a Wonder Woman villain, opens up the possibilities for certain Amazon warriors to cameo. That being said, not much is known at the moment regarding the plot of the animated series.

Creature Commandos, which serves as the precursor to the Suicide Squad in the comics, will hit the screen later this year, on December 5, 2024. The show will begin by premiering its first two episodes simultaneously before shifting to a weekly-release model for the remaining five episodes.
