DC has long been trying to emulate the big-screen success of its counterpart, Marvel, but its efforts have yielded underwhelming results so far. However, the 1934-founded comic-book juggernaut has fared considerably better when it comes to TV shows. Their CW projects, despite their inconsistent quality, have successfully amassed a massive fanbase, arguably bringing in better audience reviews than some DC movies of late. As such, Arrow actor Stephen Amell has expressed displeasure at the jokes made at his character’s expense in James Gunn’s Peacemaker series.
Stephen Amell says Peacemaker’s Arrow jab ‘was unnecessary’
In a recent discussion, Stephen Amell stated that he did not appreciate the joke targeted at Green Arrow.
While talking to Chris Van Vliet, the Canadian-American actor revealed that he has finally seen the Peacemaker show. In one of the episodes, John Cena’s anti-hero addresses Stephen Amell’s Green Arrow as someone who “goes to Brony conventions dressed as the back half of Twilight Sparkle.” Going by his reaction to this dialogue, the Code 8 actor was clearly not amused.
“That was a little unnecessary,” Amell said. “I didn’t f****** appreciate that at all. Between the movies and Peacemaker a little bit, our show was kind of treated like s***. I get it, we’re on The CW, I get it, it’s TV. But I also get the fact that when people think about the most recent iteration of DC, they don’t think about the Snyder Cut – they think about the Arrowverse. We got crapped on for years, and years, and years, and this just seemed excessive,” he further stated. (via Comicbook)
Despite his negative reaction to the comment about Green Arrow, Stephen Amell reiterated that he harbors no enmity towards John Cena. “I’ve met John a handful of times, and there couldn’t be a nicer, more genuine person,” the actor said. “If I should be mad at anyone, it should be James Gunn for writing that in the first place. But [John Cena] could not be a nicer guy. It’s not a personal vendetta against [Cena],” he added.
Arrow originally debuted in 2012, with Stephen Amell portraying the titular archer throughout the show’s run. The show eventually concluded in 2020 after running for an impressive eight seasons. Amell is now set to take the lead in a spin-off series of the renowned legal drama Suits, titled Suits L.A.
