Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Star Reveals His 1 Condition for Returning to the MCU

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. star Jeff Ward recently shared that he would be open to reprising his role as Deke Shaw in the Marvel Cinematic Universe on one condition.

In an interview with Agents of Fandom at Toronto Comicon, Ward revealed that he would gladly return as Deke Shaw for an Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. revival, “but only if he was in charge of S.H.I.E.L.D., because that’s where we last left him, so he’d have to be in charge.”

He continued, “But, I would love to of course, I love S.H.I.E.L.D., it’s great.” He also shared that he would love to reunite with his former co-stars, stating, “I love those people all so much, so yeah, it would be very special.”

Ward joined the cast of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. during its fifth season in the recurring role of Deke Shaw, who is later revealed to be the future grandson of Leo Fitz and Jemma Simmons. Ward was promoted to a series regular for the sixth and seventh seasons, which saw Deke become a vital member of Phil Coulson’s S.H.I.E.L.D. team and eventually the director of S.H.I.E.L.D. in an alternate timeline.

Is Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. canon to the MCU?

Created by Joss Whedon, Jed Whedon, and Maurissa Tancharoen, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. ran for seven seasons and 136 episodes on ABC from 2013 to 2020. Although Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was billed as the first television series set in the MCU, its relationship to the wider universe has always been murky with Marvel Studios refusing to acknowledge the show’s events in any of its feature-length movies.

With Marvel officially adding Netflix’s Defenders Saga to the MCU sacred timeline, as well as bringing back key characters and actors for new projects, many S.H.I.E.L.D. fans remain hopeful that the beloved ABC series will eventually receive the same treatment.

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is available to stream on Disney+.
