Disney+’s Willow Adds Amer Chadha-Patel in a Lead Role

The upcoming sequel series to Ron Howard’s Willow has found its next protagonist. According to Deadline, Amer Chadha-Patel has booked a lead role on Lucasfilm’s highly-anticipated series for Disney+.

The series picks up several years after Howard’s original film and centers on a group of young travelers in search of a missing prince. The travelers include Kit (Ruby Cruz), the prince’s twin brother; Dove (Ellie Bamber) an “unassuming” kitchen maid and the mysterious “chosen one”; and Jade (Erin Kellyman), Kit’s servant and best friend. Warwick Davis is also reprising his role as Willow Ufgood.

Chadha-Patel will play Boorman, and he will accompany Bamber, Cruz, and Kellyman’s characters on their journey. Originally, it was speculated that Tony Revolori was going to play this character when he first joined the series earlier this year. However, Revolori’s role remains a secret for now. Deadline’s report likens Boorman to Val Kilmer’s Madmartigan from Howard’s original movie. He’s also “a thief and liar who joins the quest in exchange for getting out of prison.”

Last year, Chadha-Patel had a recurring role on the HBO miniseries The Third Day. He previously appeared in Doom: Annihilation in 2019 and had a small role in Disney’s live-action Aladdin remake as a palace guard. Chadha-Patel also showed up in all but one episode of the British miniseries Year of the Rabbit.

Solo: A Star Wars Story writer Jonathan Kasdan penned Willow’s pilot episode and is co-showrunning the series with Wendy Mericle. Lucasfilm is also producing the sequel alongside Howard and original Willow screenwriter Bob Dolman. Disney+ hasn’t announced a release date yet.
