Pierce Brosnan Cast as Doctor Fate in DC’s Black Adam Movie

The last member of Black Adam’s Justice Society has been found. According to The Hollywood Reporter, former 007 star, Pierce Brosnan, has signed on to play Kent Nelson/Doctor Fate in Dwayne Johnson’s upcoming DC movie.

Gardner Fox and Howard Sherman created Doctor Fate in the pages of More Fun Comics #55 in 1940. As a child, Kent accompanied his archaeologist father, Sven, on an expedition to the Valley of Ur. While exploring an underground temple, Kent inadvertently freed the immortal being Nabu from suspended animation. But in the process, he also unleashed a poisonous gas that killed his father. Nabu subsequently took Kent under his wing and taught him sorcery over the next 20 years before presenting him with his signature helmet, amulet, and cloak. Kent later returned to the U.S. and began his crime fighting career as Doctor Fate.

During last summer’s DC FanDome event, Johnson confirmed that Black Adam would feature four members of the Justice Society. The team’s three other members have already been cast. Brosnan will appear alongside Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, and Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone.

Last year, Brosnan appeared in Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga on Netflix. He also headlined The Son for two seasons on AMC. Some of Brosnan’s other recent credits include Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, Final Score, and The Only Living Boy in New York.

Jaume Collet-Serra is directing Black Adam from a script written by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani. Production will begin in April.
