Oscar Isaac Cast As Solid Snake in the Metal Gear Solid Movie

It’s been a busy post-Star Wars year for Oscar Isaac. Earlier in 2020, Isaac lined up the lead roles in Marvel’s Moon Knight series, as well the adaptation of the Ex Machina comic, The Great Machine. Now, Deadline is reporting that Isaac is attached to play Solid Snake in the long-awaited Metal Gear Solid movie. Jordan Vogt-Roberts remains attached to direct the adaptation of Konami’s hit video game series.

The initial Metal Gear game debuted in 1987, as players stepped into the role of Snake as he went on a stealth mission behind enemy lines. However, the game series was reinvigorated in 1998 with the release of Metal Gear Solid for the original Playstation. That title fully embraced the stealth gameplay with a full voice cast and an expanded mythology that reintroduced Snake and debuted his nemesis, Liquid Snake. The series spawned four direct sequels, with the most recent game, Metal Gear Solid V, hitting in 2015.

The Metal Gear Solid series was created and overseen by game designer Hideo Kojima, for Konami. Kojima also infused the games with a cinematic style that made them ideal for an adaptation. After years of development hell, Isaac’s involvement suggests that the movie is almost ready to proceed.

However, there is some question as to when Metal Gear Solid can begin filming. His upcoming projects, Moon Knight and HBO’s Scenes From A Marriage, will be shot first. He also has a supporting role in next year’s Dune.
