A few weeks after wowing DC fans with its first trailer, The Batman recently resumed production in the United Kingdom. Unfortunately, the reboot has just hit a new speedbump. Via Variety, a spokesperson for the studio issued the following statement: “A member of The Batman production has tested positive for COVID-19 and is isolating in accordance with established protocols. Filming is temporarily paused.” However, Vanity Fair is now reporting that infected crew member is none other than Robert Pattinson, the star of the film.
Previously, The Batman was forced to suspend filming back in March due to the ongoing health crisis. When Warner Bros. ordered the production shutdown earlier this year, only 25% of the movie had been shot. Regardless, director Matt Reeves was able to cut enough footage together to preview the film at DC FanDome last month. According to Variety’s report, The Batman has about three months’ worth of scenes left to shoot. The filmmakers are also hoping to wrap the movie by the end of the year.

This news comes as a number of other high-profile films are getting back underway in the midst of the pandemic. Studios are implementing several safety measures to try to prevent the spread of the virus. But as this latest announcement shows, nothing’s actually guaranteed. It’s currently unclear when The Batman will get the go-ahead to start filming again.
The Batman will hit theaters on October 1, 2021.
