Oscar Isaac Talks Dune, New Images Revealed

Actor Oscar Isaac feels that the symbolism of the Dune story is more relevant than ever to many current topics. In the upcoming sci-fi movie, Isaac portrays Duke Leto of House Atreides, the governor of the desert planet Arrakis. In a recent interview with Empire, Isaac drew some parallelism between some of the world’s hot topics — like the environment — and Dune.

“It’s about the destiny of a people, and the different way that cultures have dominated other ones,” Isaac said. “How do a people respond when it’s at the tipping point, when enough is enough, when they’re exploited? All those things are things we’re seeing around the world right now.”

Leto Atreides’ love-interest is Lady Jessica, who is portrayed by Rebecca Ferguson. In the same interview, Dune director Dennis Villeneuve teased that she will have as much impact on the story as her husband, given that we wanted to keep that “balance between the masculine power and feminine power” he loved in Frank Herbert’s book. A new look at the power couple has made its way online; you can check it out here below.

There is also a better look at Stilgar (Javier Bardem), one of the tribes’ leader of the Fremen people.

Villeneuve will return to Europe together with his crew later this summer to complete additional filming. According to Warner Bros.’ plans, Dune will hit theaters on December 18.
