Strange Tentacles Threaten the Protagonists in Lovecraft Country Poster

In less than a month, HBO will premiere the first episode of Lovecraft Country. Today, the television network has dropped a brand new poster featuring the protagonists of the upcoming drama horror show. In the poster, Jonathan Majors’ Atticus Black and Jurnee Smollett-Bell’s Letitia Dandridge are surrounded by mysterious tentacles, with a caption that reads: “Take back your legacy.” Without spoiling too much for those who have not read Matt Ruff’s book — or Howard Phillips Lovecraft’s works — let’s just say that those tentacles don’t bode well for the protagonists.

Except for the abovementioned Majors and Smollett-Bell, Lovecraft Country also stars and Michael K. Williams as Atticus’ father, Montrose Freeman. Additionally, the series features Abbey Lee as Christina Braithwhite, Aunjanue Ellis as Hippolyta Black, and Wunmi Mosaku as Ruby Dandridge. Courtney B. Vance also recurs on the series as George Black.

The official synopsis of the upcoming show by Misha Green, who is also the executive producer alongside Jordan Peele and J.J. Abrams, reads:

Lovecraft Country follows Atticus Black as he joins up with his friend Letitia and his Uncle George to embark on a road trip across 1950s Jim Crow America in search of his missing father. This begins a struggle to survive and overcome both the racist terrors of white America and the terrifying monsters that could be ripped from a Lovecraft paperback.”

Lovecraft Country will premiere on HBO on August 16.
