Tom Ellis Seems Finally Aboard for Potential Lucifer Season 6 at Netflix

The Devil is in the details, as they say. Deadline brings word that the star of Lucifer has finally reached an agreement to reprise the role of the titular character. The reported deal implies that Ellis will play Lucifer Morningstar in the sixth and final season of the show, which is not official yet. According to the report, the rest of the cast is already on board. At the moment, production has been halted right before the end of Lucifer Season 5 due to the COVID-19 health emergency.

Negotiations between Ellis, Warner Bros., and Netflix have been complicated so far. Back in March, it seemed that the actor and producers finalized a deal for the sixth season. However, in April a new report indicated that Lucifer Season 6 was in danger of collapsing entirely after the actor reportedly rejected WB’s latest offer. Now it appears that all the involved parties have solved the impasse.

Based very loosely on the Vertigo character, Lucifer tells the story of the original fallen angel. Bored and unhappy as the Lord of Hell, Lucifer Morningstar abandoned his throne. He then retired to Los Angeles, where he teamed up with LAPD detective Chloe Decker to take down criminals. Fox abruptly canceled the show after its third season, but Netflix picked up the show in 2019.

Warner Bros. Television produces Lucifer in association with Jerry Bruckheimer Television and Aggressive Mediocrity. The series is vaguely based on characters created by Neil Gaiman, Sam Kieth and Mike Dringenberg for Vertigo, from DC Entertainment.
