Padawans Train to Become Jedi in New Star Wars: Jedi Temple Challenge Trailer

Young Star Wars fans will compete to become the newest guardians of peace and justice in an upcoming game show from Lucasfilm. In advance of next week’s debut, the studio has premiered a new trailer for Star Wars: Jedi Temple Challenge.

After appearing as Jar Jar Binks in the Star Wars prequel trilogy, Ahmed Best is getting his second act in a galaxy far, far away as the series’ host. Best will play Kelleran Beq, the Jedi Master tasked with training the series’ contestants. These padawans will participate in a series of challenges testing their strength, knowledge, and bravery. As shown in the trailer, they will also trek through obstacle courses, fly in a Jedi Star Cruiser, and even build their own lightsabers. Beq will also be joined by his protocol droid companion, AD-3 (voiced by Veep’s Mary Holland). Additionally, Sam Witwer will appear as the disembodied voice of the dark side of the Force.

Jedi Temple Challenge was announced back in December as a Disney+ original. However, the series will now premiere on StarWarsKids.com and the official Star Wars Kids YouTube channel instead. Presumably, this is Lucasfilm’s way of trying to extend a bit of goodwill during the COVID-19 pandemic. Mickey Capoferri, Lucasfilm’s senior director of Online Content & Programming, implied this in a new statement about the series.

“With so many children and families home and looking to Star Wars for hope and entertainment, we wanted to make Jedi Temple Challenge available to as many young fans as possible by airing the series on our Star Wars Kids network for everyone to enjoy,” said Capoferri.

Star Wars: Jedi Temple Challenge will arrive on Wednesday, June 3. You can watch the trailer for the new game show below.
