Robert Pattinson Talks About Finding an ‘Opening’ Into Batman

Robert Pattinson is enjoying the unexpected days of forced break from the shooting of The Batman in his apartment in London. Maybe the Twilight star is taking the hiatus a bit too much lightheartedly since he knows he should also keep his body in shape for when production will restart. In a recent interview with GQ, however, Pattinson confessed that he is not very fond of working out right now.

“Literally, I’m just barely doing anything,” Pattinson said.

Perhaps Pattinson should learn from his fellow actress Zoë Kravitz, who is playing Catwoman in Matt Reeves’ upcoming feature and — according to Pattinson — exercising five days a week.

Pattinson then weighed in on the downsides and upsides of playing Gotham’s masked vigilante.

“I was thinking that there are multiple definitive playings of the character. I was watching the making of Batman & Robin the other day,” the actor said. “And even then, George Clooney was saying that he was worried about the fact that it’s sort of been done, that a lot of the ground you should cover with the character has been already covered. And that’s in ’96, ’97? Then there’s Christian Bale, and Ben Affleck’s one. And then I was thinking, it’s fun when more and more ground has been covered. Like, where is the gap? You’ve seen this sort of lighter version, you’ve seen a kind of jaded version, a kind of more animalistic version. And the puzzle of it becomes quite satisfying, to think: Where’s my opening?”

Warner Bros. halted production on the Dark Knight’s next film as well as that of other upcoming tentpoles — including The Matrix 4 — in March after the COVID-19 outbreak. The Batman is set to open in theaters on October 1, 2021.
