Edge of Tomorrow Producer to Write Disney’s Obi-Wan Series

Joby Harold, whose most recent writing credits include Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead and a proposed Transformers spin-off, looks to script the Disney+ Obi-Wan Kenobi series. Harold’s first writing credit (and only directorial effort), the thriller Awake, ironically enough starred Anakin Skywalker actor Hayden Christensen. He followed that with Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, which featured a heroic Englishman with a specially powered saber battling an evil dark lord. Variety reported his attachment to the Star Wars spinoff series.

Though star Ewan McGregor previously downplayed any notion that there were writing issues, previous scribe Hossein Amini left in January. Harold sounds set to start anew rather than simply rewriting Amini. In addition to his writing credits, his history as a producer includes Edge of Tomorrow and John Wick Chapter 3: Parabellum.

Set eight years after Revenge of the Sith and eleven years before A New Hope, the Obi-Wan Kenobi series had set a January 2021 shoot date. Disney may postpone due to the global pandemic, and/or depend how fast Harold can crank out new scripts. Given the timeline, the show should follow the exploits of the Jedi master in exile on Tatooine. Though who’s to say he didn’t sneak offworld on occasion?

Fans have clamored for more Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan for quite a while now. In the meantime, the James Arnold Taylor-voiced iteration still appears in new Clone Wars episodes.
