Stargirl Set Photos Feature First Look at Henry Thomas’ Doctor Mid-Nite

Even though Stargirl will debut a week later than previously announced, but it may be worth the waiting. Thanks to the official account of Stargirl specialty costume designer Laura Jean Shannon, fans got a first look at Henry Thomas’ Doctor Mid-Nite. In the comics, Doctor Mid-Nite is a member of DC’s Justice Society of America. He is a skilled martial artist who wears a cowled costume featuring a crescent moon symbol. Plus, he is able to see even in the deepest darkness.

Given the pictures, Henry Thomas’ Doctor Mid-Nite resembles pretty much his comic counterpart. Interestingly, there is no sidekick owl — Doctor Mid-Nite’s trademark –, but perhaps they will add it in the post-production.

Stargirl will follow the story of Courtney Whitmore (Bassinger) who is a smart, athletic and above all else kind girl. This high school teenager’s seemingly perfect life hits a major speedbump when her mother gets married and her new family moves from Los Angeles, California to Blue Valley, Nebraska. Struggling to adapt to a new school, make new friends and deal with a new step-family, Courtney discovers her step-father has a secret; he used to be the sidekick to a superhero. “Borrowing” the long-lost hero’s cosmic staff, Courtney becomes the unlikely inspiration for an entirely new generation of superheroes.

Character creator Geoff Johns will write and produce the series through his Mad Ghost Productions banner together with Greg Berlanti and Berlanti Productions.

The upcoming Stargirl series will premiere on Monday, May 18 on DC Universe. The CW will follow, reshowing the premiere on Tuesday, May 19. How do you think Henry Thomas will fare as Doctor Mid-Nite? Let us know in the comments section below.
