Hasbro Will Release a Ghostbusters-Transformers Hybrid at Comic-Con

Hasbro Will Release a Ghostbusters/Transformers Hybrid at Comic-Con

What do ghost-hunting scientists and alien robots in disguise have in common? Not much, but 2019 marks the 35th anniversary of both the Ghostbusters and Transformers franchises. And this summer, Hasbro is celebrating this shared milestone with a limited edition collectible. Via Polygon, the company is gearing up to release a new Transformers hybrid Optimus Prime action figure with a Ghostbusters motif. Visitors to this year’s San Diego Comic-Con will have exclusive access to the toy.

Hasbro’s new 9.5-inch Optimus figure transforms into a big rig as usual. However, his color scheme resembles that of the Ghostbusters’ iconic vehicle, the Ecto-1. The team’s phone number and famous slogan (“We’re ready to believe you”) appear along the side of the truck, called the Ecto-35. Additionally, the toy also gives Optimus his own ghost trap, Proton Pack, and miniature Slimer figure. As a special treat for fans, the figure’s packaging can also be worn as a Proton Pack itself.

This won’t be the first time that Transformers and Ghostbusters collide this year. The Autobots are teaming up with Venkman, Stantz, Spengler, and Zeddemore in a new IDW comic series. Simply titled Transformers/Ghostbusters, the series comes from writer Erik Burnham and artist Dan Schoening. It also introduces a new Autobot named Ectotron, who will get a toy of his own this summer. As his name implies, Ectotron transforms into the familiar Ecto-1 we’ve come to recognize over the last three decades. His action figure can be pre-ordered here.

The MP-10G Optimus Prime Ecto-35 Edition action figure costs $149. You can check out a few photos below. Will you try to score one of these Ghostbusters/Transformers mash-ups at San Diego Comic-Con next month? Let us know in the comment section!
