Jessica Brown Findlay Joins the Brave New World Series

The cast of the next live-action adaptation of Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World is taking shape. According to Deadline, Jessica Brown Findlay is the latest recruit to join the upcoming TV series. She’ll play the role of Lenina Crowne on the new series.

Findlay came to prominence when she starred as Lady Sybil on several episodes of Downton Abbey. She  currently appears on the period drama Harlots, which airs on ITV in the U.K. and Hulu in the U.S. Additionally, her big-screen credits include Winter’s Tale, Albatross, and Victor Frankenstein.

In Huxley’s novel, Lenina Crowne was a Beta Plus Hatchery worker who harbors insecurities about her role in the hierarchy of the World State. During a trip to the Savage Lands with fellow New World citizen Bernard Marx, they find themselves caught up in a violent rebellion among the region’s inhabitants. John the Savage rescues Lenina and Bernard, then returns with them to New London and poses a threat to the status quo of the World State’s supposedly “perfect” society.

Findlay will appear alongside Solo: A Star Wars Story’s Alden Ehrenreich and Legion’s Harry Lloyd as John and Bernard, respectively. Brave New World was originally expected to air on the USA Network. However, rumor now has its premiere coinciding with the launch of the NBCU streaming service. Regardless of where the series ends up, the producers aren’t planning to scrimp on the budget. Deadline’s report also suggests that the cost per episode could balloon as high as $10 million.
