Mark Ruffalo Had Other Hulk Ideas In Mind Says Feige

Mark Ruffalo had other Hulk stories in mind says Feige

(Warning: Spoilers ahead for Avengers: Endgame.)

Hulk and Bruce Banner have come a long way over the years since Mark Ruffalo stepped into the role. From his start in 2012’s The Avengers (not counting Edward Norton’s 2008 Incredible Hulk film) through Avengers: Endgame, it’s really been a remarkable journey. But Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige explained that the actor had suggested even more for the character. In a recent Reddit AMA, Feige explained that Ruffalo wanted much more out of the Hulk, outside of his main film appearances.

“Many years ago, Mark came in for a meeting with us at Marvel Studios to discuss ways in which the Hulk could grow and evolve in upcoming films,” Feige said. “He pitched a lot of cool ideas, some of which led to what you saw in Thor: Ragnarok, Infinity War and Endgame, and some of which would still be cool to see someday.”

At the moment, it’s unknown whether Ruffalo will return to the role in some capacity for Phase 4. But a fan noted in the AMA, “It would be super weird for Professor Hulk to just vanish.”

There’s an interesting point here. By the time Endgame concludes, Hulk/Bruce Banner are at peace with one another. But there’s always the possibility of a follow-up in which the two are at odds again, just like in Infinity War.

Not to mention the possibilities with the Doctor Strange sequel, now that Banner has a connection with the Ancient One, via Endgame.

As far as what ideas Ruffalo had in mind for the character, Feige wouldn’t say. But with the way Ragnarok played out, Planet Hulk might have been on the table at one point. We may find out what comes next for the character once Marvel confirms its Phase 4 plans later this summer.

For now, fans can “hulk out” with the newly combined Professor Hulk in Avengers: Endgame, which is in theaters now. What else do you think Ruffalo can do with the character? Let us know in the comments below!
