Game of Thrones Creators Remember Challenging Jason Momoa in The Slap Game

Jason Momoa may not necessarily owe his career to Game of Thrones, but it did make him a bigger star. Before joining the series as Khal Drogo, Momoa was primarily known for co-starring in Stargate: Atlantis. Momoa’s stint on GoT only lasted a single season, but he came back for a guest appearance in season 2. That’s the background info for a new animated video from HBO, which depicts what happened during Momoa’s return.

Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss narrated the video, which humorously recreates the events of “The Slap Game.” Essentially, Benioff got drunk with Momoa and decided it would be a good idea to challenge him in the Slap Game. Unfortunately for Benoiff, that turned out to be a serious mistake.

“I looked in Momoa’s eyes, I saw no mercy there,” recalled Benioff. “But I wouldn’t quit because I had my pride. I had my dumb pride.”

As an added touch, the confrontation plays out as if it was a Dothraki celebration, with both Benioff and Weiss re-imagined as horsemen. Somewhere in Benioff’s mind, he truly thought had a chance in a physical contest against Momoa. He had to endure a lot of pain before surrendering to the inevitable conclusion.

To make matters worse, Momoa’s slaps caused quite a bit of damage to Benioff’s hands. But you’ll have to watch the video to see how it finally played out.
