Last night’s penultimate episode of Gotham’s final season set the stage for next week’s series finale, which jumps forward 10 years and shows Bruce Wayne returning to the city as Batman. Camren Bicondova has played Selina Kyle since the series’ 2014 premiere. However, she won’t be around for the series finale. Lili Simmons will take over for Bicondova as an older Selina/Catwoman. Now that her five-year journey has officially ended, Bicondova has penned a lengthy open letter to Gotham’s creators and fans. You can check out what she had to say via Twitter below.

Bicondova started her letter by heaping praise on Simmons, who “made [her] cry tears of joy” when they first met. “She is perfect for this role, and she really wanted to do Selina right,” wrote Bicondova. “We spoke about Selina Kyle for hours; I shared journal entries and scenes that were prime examples of Selina’s characteristics, and she shared thoughts of backstory for the 10 years that the audience doesn’t see.”

“Thank you to Warner Bros., and FOX for five years of life on a beautiful, unique, television show,” added Bicondova. “Thank you to Bruno Heller, Danny Cannon, and John Stephens for for believing in me. Bruno and Danny, you saw something in that 14 year old girl that she didn’t see in herself, and I thank you… John, you always made sure I knew you were just a phone-call away, and never once made me feel crazy for the suggestions or questions I had, and for that, I am thankful.”
“Playing [Selina] has taught me so much about myself and what it really means to stand firm and win life. Thank you all for trusting me with her fragile indomitability, her witty comebacks, her ardent fight scenes, and her tasteful style–I’ve never held the opportunity lightly.”
Gotham will air its final episode on April 25 at 8pm. You can share your thoughts on Bicondova’s letter in the comment section below.
