TIME Magazine Names Brie Larson as One of Its 100 Most Influential People

Brie Larson was already an Academy Award-winning actress prior to starring in this year’s Captain Marvel, but her turn as Carol Danvers caused her star to rise even higher. Marvel Studios’ first female-led superhero movie proceeded to earn over $1 billion at the box office. Additionally, Kevin Feige has said the character will “take the lead” in the MCU following the conclusion of Phase Three. Now, TIME is recognizing Larson’s impact by featuring her on their annual list of the year’s 100 Most Influential People.

To explain why Larson deserves the honor, TIME enlisted Thor: Ragnarok’s Tessa Thompson to pen a heartfelt tribute to her MCU co-star. Thompson began her piece by praising Larson as “a warrior on- and offscreen.” Not just because of Captain Marvel’s massive financial success, but because of Larson’s personal efforts to advocate for gender equality.

“For Brie, it just comes naturally,” Thompson wrote. “Her activism is an extension of who she is. She sits at a table and wants to make sure everyone has access to it. She is constantly investigating how to be a better ally. The first time I met her, she was taking a breather outside of an annual adult prom; the next time, she was hosting a conversation (complete with graphs and a PowerPoint presentation) about the lack of representation in film. She has a huge capacity for both joy and serious work.”

Larson and Thompson will reprise their roles as Carol Danvers and Valkyrie when Avengers: Endgame hits theaters on April 26.
