New Venom Clip Brings Symbiotic Violence

Sony just released a new Venom clip that shows not only Eddie Brock’s awesome transformation into the alien symbiote, but also over 30 seconds of the iconic villain in action. Check it out in the player down below.

In the clip, Brock (Tom Hardy) is cornered by a SWAT team, and he looks like he has been through hell and back. After giving the squad a warning that they definitely don’t want to mess with him, he lets Venom take over. Then, we get our first clear look at the character in action. It looks like director Ruben Fleischer is staying incredibly true to the Venom character. In battle, he uses his tentacles, the symbiote shifts to absorb incoming projectiles, and it gives Brock the ability to leap large heights and distances, as well as intimidating brute power. Visually, Venom looks fantastic and the transformation process looks as though it jumped right off the page of the comics.

Set to hit theaters next month, Venom stars Tom Hardy as both Eddie Brock and the title character. While the team decided not to use motion capture, Hardy provides the voice for Venom, bringing a more believable concept to the “voices” in his head that the symbiote so graciously provides. Recently it was confirmed that the film would receive a PG-13 rating, much to fan dismay hoping that it would be rated R following in the success of other hyper-violent Marvel films Deadpool, Deadpool 2, and Logan.

Venom debuted in The Amazing Spider-Man #300 back in 1988 and he has since become one of Spider-Man’s greatest foes. More recent versions of the character have made him more of an antihero with his own line of comics. Venom was previously brought to the big screen by director Sam Raimi in Spider-Man 3. Topher Grace (That 70’s Show) portrayed Eddie Brock, but the character was shoved into a stuffed movie with two other villains and wasn’t given the screen time he deserved.

This new adaptation puts the entire focus on the villain, but Sony has said that Spider-Man is not a part of the film. Hardy did confirm that he is contracted for at least three Venom films so there is a chance that we might see our current Spider-Man (played by Tom Holland) face off against him in the future.

Venom rampages into theaters on Friday, October 5. What did you think about this Venom clip? Let us know in the comment section!
