The Defenders Season 2 Isn’t Dead According To Jeff Leob
Earlier this month, plans for season 2 of The Defenders seemed non-existent according to the show’s executive producer and the head of Marvel TV, Jeff Loeb. Now we are discovering that isn’t entirely the case.
“No, all we’ve ever said is that there are no plans right now [to do more]. It doesn’t mean that it’s off the table,” Loeb said in an interview with EW via ComicBook.com. “And it doesn’t mean that it even has to be with the original characters that were in the first Defenders.”
Not all hope is lost! It does seem that Loeb, Marvel, and Netflix might be considering a new team-up if a season 2 were to ever happen. Season one saw Luke Cage, Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Iron Fist join forces for the 8 episode run. The Defenders in Marvel’s comic book universe featured Dr. Strange and the Hulk as mainstay members. Other heroes who rotated in and out included Namor, Silver Surfer, and Valkyrie. Unfortunately, many of those members are off limits due to the apparent divide between Marvel Studios and Marvel TV.

However, Disney is ramping up to launch their own streaming service with a slew of new shows. These include the recently announced Loki and Scarlett Witch series that would see Tom Hiddleston and Elizabeth Olsen reprise their respective roles. It would be interesting to see how The Defenders would play into that service, and whether or not the show would stay exclusive to Netflix.
While this new update doesn’t give fans much hope, it does show that the idea of more Defenders is not dead and could, potentially, happen. Until then, we will all have to eagerly await season 3 of Daredevil set to premiere October 19 on Netflix.
