Exclusive: Kiersey Clemons Talks Flashpoint and Justice League

Last year, Warner Bros. Pictures‘ The Flash solo movie (now titled Flashpoint) lost Dope director Rick Famuyiwa, who departed the DC Comics adaptation over creative differences. Since then, the studio has been looking for a new filmmaker to take over, but in the meantime actress Kiersey Clemons has been in a kind of limbo waiting for the movie to start again. While promoting her new movie The Only Living Boy in New York, Clemons talked to us about her role as Iris West in both Flashpoint and this November’s Justice League.

ComingSoon.net: I was actually talking to Tony Revolori last month and I mentioned how crazy it is that of the “Dope” crew, Shameik Moore is voicing Spider-Man, Tony is playing Flash in Spider-Man, and you’re Iris West in The Flash.

Kiersey Clemons: (laughs) Yep!

CS: Who could have imagined such a confluence of craziness?

Clemons: Yeah. The industry is full. (laughs). I’m not surprised.

CS: Have you been involved at all in the reshoots happening on “Justice League”?

Clemons: Everyone’s asking me that. No, I finished all my stuff with Zack [Snyder], I wish him well and I have no idea what’s going on right now, but I’m sure whatever they’re doing is necessary. I know the parts that I did introducing Iris are f*cking sick. I can’t wait to see the movie. I’m so happy that I’ve been introduced to this genre because I didn’t really have any type of desire to be a part of any superhero world. And then I stepped on the set of “Justice League” and I was like, “Holy sh*t. All right!”

CS: In terms of scheduling, I know the Flash movie got delayed after Rick left. How do you deal with that logistically, in terms of booking other films or TV shows when you don’t know quite when Flash might get going again?

Clemons: I am just taking it project by project. I have so many projects in the works that I’m not necessarily gonna be on camera for, but I’m producing and writing. I’m kind of filling this space by working on that stuff, so when it comes around for Flash I can get our movie done and then I can produce my own stuff. The Flash is gonna be taking up a lot of my time throughout the year acting, so I want to make sure I’m preparing to do the other things I wanna do when it comes to creating and casting! The f*ckin’ actors I wanna see. I wanna see some sexy black men in a movie, you know what I’m sayin’? Those are the movies I’m gonna make.

CS: I know what you’re saying. I got to see Idris this week, so I know exactly what you’re saying.

Clemons: SO GOOD.

CS: So you’re just kind of in a holding pattern right now with everything because of The Flash?

Clemons: Yeah. I’m gonna leave tonight to go film. I’m gonna finish up the year, and then by January if we aren’t gonna go on The Flash I will probably get back to writing and then take a little break.

Right now Flashpoint is getting a page-one rewrite from King Arthur: Legend of the Sword scribe Joby Harold, with several A-list directors circling the project, including frontrunner Robert Zemeckis (Back to the Future Trilogy, Contact).

Rick Famuyiwa was the second Flashpoint director to exit the project, following Seth Grahame-Smith earlier last year. It is currently believed that whoever takes the over as the film’s helmer will retain leading man Ezra Miller and announced stars Kiersey Clemons as Iris West and Billy Crudup as Barry Allen’s (Miller) father, Henry.

Following a debut in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and a cameo in Suicide Squad, Ezra Miller will next be seen as The Flash in Justice League, opening in theaters on November 17.
