X-Men: First Class Makes $3.4 Million at Midnight

The Hollywood Reporter is saying that Matthew Vaughn's X-Men: First Class, which 20th Century Fox opens today, has grossed an estimated $3.4 million from its midnight screenings last night, compared to the $3.3 million grossed by Marvel Studios' Thor in midnights last month. Thor went on to gross $65.7 million in its opening weekend, although one would generally expect that the X-Men prequel would do bigger business at midnight being a prequel to a popular franchise and with all the buzz it's received.  On the other hand, the X-Men prequel is likely to have more of a female audience who wouldn't necessarily rush out to see it at midnight so it probably will even out and doing in the same general ballpark. Check back on Sunday for the full weekend box office report.
