James Gunn is hinting that multiple characters from Creature Commandos will appear in 2025’s Superman.
The first two episodes of Creature Commandos were released on Max on December 5, 2024. New episodes of the first DCU series will continue to drop on a weekly basis, with the finale then dropping on January 9, 2025.
Gunn is also working on the first official DCU feature film, Superman, which stars David Corenswet and will be released in United States theaters in July 2025.
What did James Gunn say about Creature Commandos and Superman?
On Threads, Gunn was asked whether Creature Commandos was required viewing in order to understand the plot of Superman.
“CC happens before SM and shares some characters and is in the same universe,” Gunn answered. “But there is nothing you have to know from CC to understand SM.”
It was previously known that Frank Grillo will reprise his role as Rick Flag Sr. in Superman; however, Gunn’s use of plural “characters” suggests that others will show up as well.
According to Deadline, Alan Tudyk is also playing a mystery role in the movie. Tudyk voices three different characters in Creature Commandos — Doctor Phosphorus, Clayface, and Will Magnus — and Gunn has said that he’ll play at least one of them in live-action form, though it is not known who or if Tudyk is playing someone entirely different in Superman.
Along with Corenswet and Grillo, Superman stars Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Wendell Pierce as Perry White, Terence Rosemore as Otis, Pruitt Taylor Vince as Jonathan Kent, Neva Howell as Martha Kent, Beck Bennett as Steve Lombard, Mikaela Hoover as Cat Grant, Christopher McDonald as Ron Troupe, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, María Gabriela de Faría as Angela Spice/The Engineer, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, and Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl.
Superman will be released in United States theaters on July 11, 2025.
