Following the theatrical release of 2023’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, its planned sequel Beyond the Spider-Verse has suffered setbacks during its ongoing production, including a delay in its original release date. The third installment was originally slated for a March 29, 2024 release. However, Sony Pictures ultimately decided to remove it from its theatrical calendar.
What happened to Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse’s script?
According to a brand new report, the original script for Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse was reportedly scrapped by Sony Pictures after the 2023 sequel was released. According to Brandon Davis’ Phase Hero podcast, the third installment “is very far off” from being released. Davis also revealed that the studio “didn’t have the ending” when they decided to restart the high-profile project’s script.
At the moment, it’s unclear what the current status of Beyond the Spider-Verse is since the studio has yet to reveal its official theatrical release date. However, due to circulating rumors about its production setbacks, it seems like fans will have to wait longer for the next Miles Morales movie.
The film is being directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson from a screenplay written by Dave Callaham, Phil Lord, and Christopher Miller. The voice cast includes Shameik Moore as Miles Morales, Hailee Steinfeld as Gwen Stacy, Jake Johnson as Peter B.
