Invincible: J.K. Simmons Reveals Who Should Play Omni-Man in a Live-Action Movie

J.K. Simmons doesn’t want to play Omni-Man in a live-action Invincible movie; however, he has an idea for who should.

Speaking with ComicBook.com, Simmons, who voices Omni-Man in Amazon Prime Video’s Invincible series, said he should “absolutely not” be the one to play the character in a live-action movie.

“I don’t think Omni Man should be played by a 69-year-old,” he said. “I mean, again, as far as I know, it’s only rumors. It’s only rumblings that a live action film would even happen. But maybe there’s a cameo for me as the leader of the Viltrumites in a flashback or something.”

Regarding who should play the character, Simmons continued, “I always come up with a good answer 20 minutes after we get off the phone. Yeah, I don’t know. I mean, the first two guys I’m thinking of are Ryan Reynolds and… I mean, you’re thinking of the buff guy… Here’s who needs to play Omni Man… Hugh Jackman.”

What’s happening with the live-action Invincible movie?

A live-action Invincible movie was announced years ago; however, it has hit a number of delays, the latest being the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) strike.

Invincible co-creator Robert Kirkman told Variety in October 2023, “I think once we get the script to where it needs to be, I think we’ll be in a good place, and can move fairly quickly after that. But all of the factors that I just discussed are things that we’re thinking about: How does this feel new? How does this feel different? How is this going to feel like something that’s special? Those are very tall orders. We also need to find a way to play off the animated series, but also differentiate ourselves and give the movie a reason for existing. There’s a lot of work that needs to be done. But we’re hopeful.”

The live-action Invincible movie does not have a release date at this time. The animated Invincible series, meanwhile, is streaming on Prime Video.
