Invincible: Robert Kirkman Provides Update on Live-Action Movie

Robert Kirkman recently shared an update on the upcoming live-action film adaptation of Invincible.

During an interview with Variety to promote the upcoming second season of the Invincible animated series, Kirkman revealed that the live-action movie is still in “the script development stage.”

He continued, “I think once we get the script to where it needs to be, I think we’ll be in a good place, and can move fairly quickly after that. But all of the factors that I just discussed are things that we’re thinking about: How does this feel new? How does this feel different? How is this going to feel like something that’s special? Those are very tall orders. We also need to find a way to play off the animated series, but also differentiate ourselves and give the movie a reason for existing. There’s a lot of work that needs to be done. But we’re hopeful.”

Not much has changed since the last Invincible update

Kirkman last updated fans on the live-action Invincible movie in July 2023, revealing that the writers’ and actors’ strikes had stalled development “and rightly so.” He explained, “Everybody’s doing a great thing trying to make sure that future generations get to be able to work and thrive and survive in this industry.”

He added, “Everything’s been put on pause, but it’s something that I know Universal is very invested in, and it’s something that we’ve been working on behind the scenes up to this point. Hopefully, I’ll be able to answer this question in a more answerable way at some point in the future.”

Invincible has been stuck in development hell since 2017. Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, who serve as executive producers on the Prime Video animated series, are attached to write the script.

Invincible’s Season 2 premiere draws near

Invincible is based on the Image Comics series of the same name, which follows Mark Grayson, the half-human teenage son of the world’s greatest superhero, Omni-Man, as he develops powers similar to his father and learns how to become a superhero. Steven Yeun leads the series’ voice cast as Mark Grayson/Invincible with J.K. Simmons voicing his father, Omni-Man.

Season 2 of Invincible is set to premiere on Prime Video on November 3, 2023.
