Souheila Yacoub Joins the Cast of Dune: Part Two as Shishakli

Another major supporting character has been cast in Denis Villeneuve’s highly-anticipated Dune follow-up. According to Deadline, Souheila Yacoub has signed on to appear in Dune: Part Two as Shishakli, a Fremen member of Stilgar’s Sietch Tabr community.

Born in Switzerland, Yacoub is primarily known for her work in French film and TV projects. In 2018, she appeared as one of the leads in Gaspar Noé’s Climax. She has also shown up in the French miniseries Savages and had a main role in No Man’s Land, which was streamed on Hulu in the United States. Some of Yacoub’s other big-screen credits include The Salt of Tears, The Braves, and A Brighter Tomorrow.

This will be the first time that a live-action Dune adaptation has formally acknowledged Shishakli’s existence. In Frank Herbert’s novel, the character was a man, and also played a significant role in one of the book’s most pivotal scenes. We won’t spoil it for anyone unfamiliar with the story. But let’s just say she will present Paul Atreides with a set of tools that help him earn his place among the Fremen.

Other new additions to the Dune universe include Florence Pugh (Princess Irulan), Austin Butler (Feyd-Rautha), Christopher Walken (Emperor Shaddam IV) and Léa Seydoux (Lady Margot Fenring). Villeneuve is returning to direct Part Two, and he reunited with his Dune co-writer Jon Spaihts for the script. Production will reportedly begin this fall.

Warner Bros. and Legendary were originally hoping to release Dune: Part Two on October 20, 2023. But as of last month, the studios have delayed its premiere by several weeks. The film will now hit theaters on November 17, 2023.
