Will Poulter Shares His Excitement For Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

This year we’re getting not one, but two new Guardians of the Galaxy adventures (one in theaters, the other on Disney+). But as excited as fans are to see Peter Quill and the gang in Thor: Love and Thunder next month, a much bigger adventure awaits them in 2023, when their third film hits the big screen. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will notably introduce Will Poulter as Adam Warlock, a longtime Marvel fixture whose arrival was teased in Vol. 2’s post-credits scene. Now that filming has wrapped, Poulter is sharing more about what it was like to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Will Poulter shares.

Poulter touched on his Marvel role in a new interview with out sister site, ComingSoon. Fortunately, it sounds like he and director James Gunn were on the same page about how to handle his turn as the genetically-engineered superhero…even if he wasn’t familiar with the character beforehand.

“I didn’t actually know about Adam Warlock, if I’m being completely honest,” admitted Poulter. “But I was a huge fan of the Guardians franchise, and that for me was kind of the most exciting and the one that appealed to me the most within the Marvel Cinematic Universe…So I am really delighted to be involved. And I love the character of Adam and me and [director] James [Gunn’s] sort of vision for him and his journey and really aligned perfectly. I was grateful for that.”

Playing a superhero comes with its own set of requirements, like hitting the gym. But as demonstrated by recent photos of Poulter hanging out with his Midsommar co-star, Florence Pugh, in Ibiza, he had no problem achieving Adam Warlock’s physique. Although Poulter concedes that this wouldn’t have been possible if Marvel didn’t foot the bill for his gym membership.

“I’m really lucky in that ahead of all the physical preparation relative to Marvel, I had so much support from a team of people who were helping me out with the dietary side of things and the training and I’m very, very fortunate to have got a lot of support,” said Poulter. “So it’s not something that I did on my own or I would recommend anyone does on their own. It’s a lot easier when it is your job to literally just commit yourself to that. And you are also not having to pay for it all, to be completely frank, because it’s a very expensive and time-consuming ordeal if you want to try and do that.”

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will open theaters on May 5, 2023.
