Anthony Hopkins Joins the Cast of Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon

The cast of Rebel Moon has no shortage of recognizable names. Regardless, director Zack Snyder just added some major star power to the call sheet. According to Deadline, Anthony Hopkins has landed a supporting role in Snyder’s upcoming sci-fi epic. The movie will eventually have its world premiere on Netflix.

Hopkins will appear in the film as the voice of Jimmy, an “impossibly sentient” JC1435 battle robot. Jimmy was also once in service to a slain king. Hopkins joins a cast headlined by Sofia Boutella’s Kora, whose peaceful space colony is targeted by the ruthless tyrant known as Balisarius (Ed Skrein). In order to keep her community safe, Kora travels to other nearby planets to find warriors who will help her people make a stand.

Last year, Hopkins won his second Oscar for his performance in 2020’s The Father. But even at 84 years old, he shows no signs of slowing down. He most recently appeared in James Gray’s Armageddon Time. That film debuted at last month’s Cannes Film Festival and is scheduled to hit theaters sometime later this year.

After months of anticipation, Rebel Moon finally began production in April. Snyder also co-wrote the film with Shay Hatten and Kurt Johnstad, based on an idea he had for an unmade Star Wars spinoff. Other cast members include Charlie Hunnam, Djimon Hounsou, Doona Bae, Ray Fisher, Stuart Martin, Cary Elwes, Corey Stoll, Michiel Huisman, Alfonso Herrera, Cleopatra Coleman, Fra Fee, Rhian Rees, Jena Malone, E. Duffy, Charlotte Maggi, Sky Yang, and Staz Nair.

Netflix hasn’t announced a release date for Rebel Moon.
