Aquaman 2 Spoilers Revealed At Amber Heard and Johnny Depp Trial

Warning:  There are potential spoilers ahead for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom! Aquaman 2 spoilers.

Depp v. Heard is easily the celebrity trial of 2022. Essentially, Johnny Depp is suing his ex-wife, Amber Heard, for defamation; while she in turn has countersued Depp. It’s a high stakes trial, with Depp asking for $50 million and Heard claiming $100 million in damages. The key to their assertions is that the allegations of abuse stemming from their marriage greatly damaged their respective careers. According to Heard’s recent testimony, the ongoing scandal led to her role in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom to be greatly reduced.

Via Heroic Hollywood, producer Kathryn Arnold testified on Heard’s behalf. And her testimony spelled out what’s happening with Heard’s character, Mera. At the end of the first Aquaman, Mera and Arthur (Jason Momoa) were still at an early point in their relationship. But Arnold’s account indicates that the sequel will jump ahead to the point where Aquaman and Mera already have a child.

Additionally, Arnold revealed that Mera is hospitalized for most of the film. She didn’t say why or how Mera is injured, but this would explain Mera’s absence for a large part of the story. Regardless, Arnold noted that Mera returns in the third act.

The Wrap had more details from Arnold’s testimony, including her assertion that there was an effort to keep Heard out of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. However, Momoa and director James Wan successfully lobbied to keep her involved. Arnold also stated that Heard was not invited to take part in DC FanDome 2021 to promote the film because of the ongoing controversy.

Walter Hamada, Warner Bros.’ President of DC Films, is expected to testify in the trial this week. However, it’s unclear if he will corroborate Arnold’s account or if he will share any additional details about the Aquaman sequel.
