Rachel McAdams Hints At a Bigger Role in Doctor Strange 2

Although she wasn’t expected to return at first, Rachel McAdams will reprise her role as Christine Palmer in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Some fans may have been surprised by this, especially since Christine wasn’t given all that much to do when the original Doctor Strange premiered back in 2016. But it sounds like the filmmakers managed to expand her role in the highly-anticipated sequel. Rachel McAdams hints.

McAdams teased her appearance in Multiverse of Madness during a recent interview with Empire (via The Direct). We already knew that Christine isn’t rekindling her romance with Stephen Strange. In fact, the film’s trailers have indicated that she’s about to marry someone else. Regardless, McAdams promises that her character “wasn’t wearing scrubs this time around” and was “certainly a part of things I’ve never seen on screen.”

Marvel previously sowed the seeds for Christine’s return last year in Disney+’s What If…? animated series, with McAdams lending her voice to the show. One of the episode’s more memorable chapters explored an alternate reality where Christine dies and Strange is helpless to save her, no matter how many times he changes the past using the Eye of Agamotto. In an effort to enhance his powers, Strange begins absorbing the energies of various mystical beings. But this ultimately turns him into Strange Supreme, who will make his live-action debut when the sequel arrives in less than two months.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will hit theaters on May 6.
