Back in 2018, Paramount’s ambitious plans for Star Trek 4 included a time travel team-up between Chris Pine’s Captain James T. Kirk, and his late father, George Kirk (Chris Hemsworth). However, both Pine and Hemsworth reportedly pulled out of the project over money issues. There hasn’t been a Star Trek film since. But that may be about to change.
Deadline is reporting that negotiations with Pine to get him back on board for Star Trek 4. Additionally, the report indicates that Paramount wants to bring back Zachary Quinto as Spock, Zoe Saldana as Uhura, Karl Urban as Dr. McCoy, John Cho as Sulu, and Simon Pegg as Scotty. No deals are finalized yet, but the fact that the reboot cast is in play indicates that this sequel will remain in the Kelvin timeline.
The other major update from this story is that Paramount is looking to film Star Trek 4 later this year.

As far as we know, Hemsworth is not being approached for this film and it is not the same script that was abandoned in 2018. Instead, Josh Friedman and Cameron Squires are wring the current Star Trek 4 script based on a previous draft by Lindsey Beer and Geneva Robertson-Dworet.
