Tom Holland Discusses Uncharted Stuntwork in a New Featurette

Years of gymnastics training may have prepared Tom Holland for his role as Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But his upcoming turn as Nathan Drake is Sony’s Uncharted movie proved to be a very different beast. In a new featurette, Holland explains the challenges of filming action scenes for the highly-anticipated video game adaptation. And surprisingly, it sounds like they were more difficult than any of his go-rounds as Peter Parker. You can check out what he had to say below.

As we’ve seen in the trailers, one of Uncharted’s most intense sequences features Holland’s character falling out of a cargo plane, a scene ripped straight out of 2011’s Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception. The new video also shows how the filmmakers brought this moment to life in live-action. According to Holland, it took more than a month to get the scene right, and it’s a miracle he didn’t get whiplash in the process.

“With Uncharted, I was shooting stunts that are far bigger than anything I’ve done before,” said Holland. “The sequence when we’re flying out the back of the plane on the boxes, I mean, we must have shot that for five weeks. Almost every day, at times, I’d be like 100 feet in the air, attached to a box that is spinning, and then I would basically hang on until it would throw me off. And it was really scary, but I think that level of fear just makes that scene that much more authentic. It’s the hardest action sequence I’ve ever made.”

Uncharted hits theaters on February 18.
