Delroy Lindo Joins Mahershala Ali in Marvel’s Blade Reboot

Marvel’s new spin on Blade has finally booked its first supporting cast member to star opposite Mahershala Ali’s vampire-hunting superhero. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Delroy Lindo is in “final negotiations” to play a role in the film.

Lindo’s career dates all the way back to the mid-’70s and includes appearances in many of Spike Lee’s films, including Malcolm X and Crooklyn. However, his role in Lee’s Da 5 Bloods in 2020 garnered him newfound attention. In fact, several critics argued that he was robbed of an Oscar nod for his performance. Lindo was recently chosen to star in Amazon’s adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s Anansi Boys as Mr. Nancy. He can currently be seen in The Harder They Fall, which hit Netflix earlier this month.

This actually isn’t Lindo’s first brush with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In 2016, he was also cast in Marvel’s Most Wanted, an Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. spinoff that would have focused on Bobbi Morse (Adrianne Palicki) and Lance Hunter (Nick Blood). Lindo was going to play Dominic Fortune. Unfortunately, ABC ended up passing on the show.

Warning: there are spoilers ahead for Eternals!

There’s still no word on who Lindo is playing this time around. Regardless, anticipation for Blade is at an all-time high following Ali’s vocal cameo in Eternals’ post-credits scene. Bassam Tariq is directing the reboot from a screenplay by Stacy Osei-Kuffour. THR also confirms earlier reports that the movie will start production in late summer 2022.
