Following a 30-year break from crimefighting, Michael Keaton is finally getting another chance to play Batman in Warner Bros.’ The Flash, which will adapt DC’s iconic Flashpoint storyline and allow Ezra Miller’s Barry Allen to jump between realities. Naturally, Keaton’s involvement is one of the movie’s biggest selling points. And according to the actor himself, we can expect his Caped Crusader to make a big entrance when the film arrives next fall.
Keaton discussed his role in The Flash during a recent interview with Collider. And when asked how it felt to don the cape and cowl for the first time since Batman Returns premiered in 1992, he suggested that the experience was just like riding a (bat-)bike. Moreover, it even sounds like director Andy Muschietti is going the extra mile to make Keaton’s Dark Knight feel authentic.

“[It was] weirdly and ironically easy,” said Keaton. “A little bit emotional. Just a rush of memories. Without giving anything away, which I can’t, basically the first shot, not of the entire movie but let’s say the introduction [of Batman], is so good that when we walked on and started talking about a couple of shots and the angles, I went ‘whoa, this is big. This is great.’ I don’t even mean for me. Just the imagery, it’s great. And reminiscent, to some degree, of Tim Burton.”
Muschietti previously teased Keaton’s return to Gotham City with a close-up of his bloodspattered Batsuit emblem back in June. Set photos have also captured glimpses of Keaton sporting a hairpiece as Bruce Wayne in front of The Flash’s Wayne Manor set in the U.K. But of course, he’s not the only one suiting up as the world’s greatest detective next year. Ben Affleck will also be reprising his role from earlier DCEU entries.
The Flash will hit theaters on November 4, 2022.
