Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn in 2016 has arguably been one of the best casting choices in recent years for the superhero movie world. The Australian actress debuted as Dr. Harleen Frances Quinzel in 2016’s Suicide Squad before she reprised the role in 2020’s Birds of Prey. This year, she will return as Quinn in The Suicide Squad, the upcoming soft reboot of the franchise. And the actress reveals why she can’t stay away from the DC character.
“Harley sticks around,” she said while talking with British Vogue. “Even on a weekend when I’m out with friends, sometimes she pops up and I’ll be like, ‘Right then, I’m gonna put a lid on that.’” She also notes that she likes to play characters so far from who she really is. “I’m painted white and I’ve got a wig on, got a crazy costume on and this Brooklyn accent.”

Robbie likes her roles to have that little bit of high-paced, frantic action that characterizes the action genre. Fans may expect to see some of it in The Suicide Squad.
“From a business or statistical standpoint, those are the high-paying jobs,” she added. “So I really want to advocate for women writing big blockbuster action films. And then also, the perception that women aren’t interested in action is ridiculous. Plus, they’re really, really fun.”
For example, in James Gunn’s upcoming movie, Quinn handles the destruction of a Nazi-era laboratory in her red prom dress. The scene will involve loaded weapons and a badly bloodied nose.
The Suicide Squad hits theaters and HBO Max on August 6.
