Neill Blomkamp’s Demonic Trailer Takes on the Limits of Science

Fandango has released the first trailer for Neill Blomkamp’s Demonic. The South African director, who generally favors sci-fi, opted to mix genres this time in a story that will mingle sci-fi and horror. Judging from the images, it appears that the story will take on how far can humans push themselves before committing the sin of hubris. It also deals with the ephemeral border between what’s real and what’s not, especially in the VR era. The trailer introduces the young protagonist, portrayed by Carly Pope, embarking on a scientific experiment. Unfortunately for her, things take an ugly turn and it appears that she is possessed by a demonic creature. While fans may never see Blomkamp’s take on Alien after the director left that project a while ago, this might be the closest thing they can get.

Demonic will hit theatres and digital release on August 20.
