The Transformers: The Movie Gets a 4K Remaster For Its 35th Anniversary

Decades before Michael Bay came along, Hasbro’s robots in disguise made their big-screen debut with The Transformers: The Movie. The film didn’t exactly do gangbusters at the box office in the summer of 1986. However, it has since gone down in history as a vital piece of Transformers mythology. It also marked the final performances of Orson Welles and Scatman Crothers, who voiced Unicron and Jazz, respectively. Now, fans will soon be able to watch the epic story in ultra-high definition. In honor of its 35th anniversary, the movie is getting a spiffy new 4K release later this year.

The 35th anniversary edition includes a 4K transfer of the film in widescreen with HDR, Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. It also comes in a SteelBook case featuring art by Matt Ferguson, who also illustrated a limited edition 18”x24” lithograph that will accompany pre-orders from Shout! Factory’s website.

The box set also comes loaded with special features like full-length storyboards as well as deleted, alternate, and extended scenes. Fans can also listen to audio commentary from director Nelson Shin, story consultant Flint Dille, and Arcee voice actress Susan Blu. Other cast members, including Greg Berger (Grimlock), Neil Ross (Stag), Dan Gilvezan (Bumblebee), show up in ‘Til All Are One, a new documentary that celebrates the film’s enduring legacy. The doc also features appearances by composer Vince Dicola and songwriter Stan Bush. Viewers can even watch acoustic performances of Bush’s two biggest contributions to the soundtrack (“The Touch” and “Dare”) in a separate featurette.

The Transformers: The Move 35th Anniversary Edition hits stores on August 31. You can check out the full box art below and pre-order the film here.
