Legendary’s Toxic Avenger Reboot Adds Taylour Paige

Toxie may be getting a new girlfriend when his next movie hits theaters. Deadline brings word that Taylour Paige has joined the cast of Legendary’s Toxic Avenger reboot as the female lead.

Peter Dinklage is headlining the new film as its title character, an outcast whose life changes forever when he falls into a vat of toxic waste. The accident mutates Toxie beyond all recognition, but also gives him superhuman size and strength. According to the reboot’s logline, the movie will follow Toxie as he “races to save his son, his friends and his community from the forces of corruption and greed.” Jacob Tremblay also joined the cast last month. However, it’s not clear if he’s playing Dinklage’s son in the film.

Paige recently appeared opposite Viola Davis and Chadwick Boseman in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. Her performance in that film netted her an NAACP Image Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. She will also star in A24’s Zola, which hits theaters in June. Her other credits include White Boy Rick and the VH1 series Hit the Floor.

Dinklage signed on to headline The Toxic Avenger last fall. Although Troma’s original 1984 movie was little more like a campy B-movie, Legendary is approaching this new version from a different angle. Apparently, the studio is aiming for Deadpool-style subversion while also ensuring that the reboot is “steeped in environmental themes.”

Macon Blair is writing and directing Legendary’s Toxic Avenger reboot. The studio still hasn’t announced a release date for the film.
